As a leading printable shrink film supplier, Alcoa Flexible Packaging developed a new type of printable shrink film for the Whisker Lickin cat food from Nestle Purina PetCare Pet Foods. Traditional cat food packaging uses an outer cover paper that covers containers that use plastic lids. However, this new type of packaging is characterized by its use of high-density polyethylene HDPE materials; the shape is fully taken into account the ergonomic characteristics, so that customers can easily grasp; and shrink film as a very shiny print Material, compared with paper, is more likely to catch the eye of pet supporters.
The five cat food packages in the picture were printed on a printed 50-micron PVC shrink film using a reverse gravure process at Alcoa's printing facility in Dawning, Pennsylvania. The remaining four cat food packages are mainly sold on the Canadian market and printed using a flexo process. All packaging uses a seven-color, four-step printing process and uses different images of cats for different preferences of consumers in Canada and the United States.
“This is one of the many advantages of a printable shrink film,” commented Terry Cohen Harwell, commercial manager at Alcoa Flexible Packaging. “Depending on the market or special promotions, the printing of images can change slightly. The user can easily integrate the image with his own brand.” The film does not require complicated setup procedures for printing and processing.
